World Bank reclaims 4, 000 hectares erosion site in Imo State

The World Bank, as part of its commitment in addressing the menace of erosion in the Southeast, has effectively reclaimed erosion site covering more than 4,000 hectares of land in Obizi autonomous community in Ezinihitte Local Council of Imo State.

According to The Guardian, the State Project Coordinator of the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP), Victor Anuenyiagu, made this known during a site visit by the Communications consultants to the bank, Aries Concepts Nigeria Limited, led by the Team Leader, Bankole Ebisemiju.

The Guardian reports that the Director of Communications, Aries Concepts Nigeria Limited, Sola Akinsiku and some journalists, said the feat was achieved due to the commitment and priority the bank made to carry the project to logical conclusion within a record time.

Anuenyiagu, an engineer, said the project was about 85 per cent completion, adding that additions to engineering design of the project as work progressed, was a challenge his project was sorting with the bank, The Guardian reports.

Anuenyiagu also made it known that five priority sites were approved by the bank for intervention in the state, three were ongoing, and while additional two would take-off soon. He added that another four sites would soon be approved.

Aries officials, said they were particularly worried by the protection of the environment by properly disposing of wastes at designated places to ensure the project does not suffer any setback, The Guardian reports.
