Youths protest abandoned road projects, tackles Lalong

The Coalition of Jos Concerned Youths Associations yesterday protested over abandoned road projects in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State by the administration of Governor Simon Lalong.

The coalition, comprising 19 youth groups, asked the governor to either complete the projects or forget his reelection bid.

Speaking on behalf of the coalition, Buhari Ibrahim Shehu, said: “We urge Lalong to urgently mandate the contractors to return to site so that life can be bearable to people that are suffering as result of non-completion of the roads.”

The youths lamented that all the seven uncompleted roads in the local government were not up to seven kilometers.

He said: “Jos North LG gave Lalong bloc votes, our votes made him the governor, so we are now begging him to come to our aid, but if his government failed to complete the projects, we would use our PVCs to vote him out in 2019.”

He said their letters to Lalong regarding the uncompleted roads were received by Director Protocol, but that there was no response yet.

When contacted, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Yakubu Datti, said Lalong had met with the contractors handling the projects, assuring that funds would be provided to them to go back to the sites.

“There are no abandoned road projects, the construction was stopped because of rain, because you cannot construct roads during raining season,” the commissioner said.
