​Plateau Governor to build police station at UNIJOS

Plateau Governor to build police station at UNIJOS – Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau state has approved setting up police station at the University of Jos to scrub challenges of insecurity in the university community.

Speaking Saturday at the combined convocation of the university, Mr. Lalong said the gesture was aimed at ensuring security of lives and property on the campus.

The governor also announced the donation of four patrol vehicles to the university to man entrance and exit of the institution.

“Government has considered and approved the purchase and donation of four security patrol vehicles for rapid response and coverage in the following areas: main gate at the permanent site; senior staff quarters along Bauchi road.

“The deputy governor is to workout modalities of establishing a police station around the vicinity of the university,” he said.

Mr. Lalong added that as a government and host to the university, they were determined to help in the protecting, guaranteeing safe and conducive learning environment in the university.

Earlier in his address, the pro-chancellor of the university, Don Etiebet, pleaded with the federal government to provide the institution with special funds to enable it tackle insecurity challenges.

According to the pro-chancellor, the university had lost students and staff to insecurity in the state.
