Plans to deliver 5,000 housing units in Osun state concluded

All arrangements towards delivering 5,000 housing units in Osun state have been concluded between the Osun State Government and the African Nations Development Programme (ANDP), Independent reports.

The project, designed to be two-bedroom bungalows would be built in five major towns in the state.

In a statement by Mr. Olusola Adepoju, media officer, Osun State Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning, the initiative is among other things to increase the nation’s housing stocks and helping her citizens in home ownership drive.

This came to the fore during the visit of the representatives of ANDP to Governor Rauf Aregbesola in Osogbo, the state capital.

And to ensure the project is a reality, the state had already earmarked about 400 hectares of land had been provided for the housing project and other infrastructures in the five towns.

Mr. Akintunde Akinajo, Commissiner for Lands and Physical Planning, who represented the governor during the ANDP’s visit, said the housing units, would be built in Ede, Iwo, Ikirun, Ilesa and Ila-Orangun.

According to the commissioner, the state had initiated series of engagements with all stakeholders, particularly the traditional rulers and other relevant groups in all the cities chosen for siting the project.

While noting that all the required documentations had been communicated to the ANDP on the selected sites, Akinajo assured ANDP that the project has full backing and support of Governor Aregbesola.

“Because we believe in this laudable project, we have invested heavily in the development of infrastructure and others, as this has created a framework upon which development would be built.”

In his reaction, Mr. Eze Ifeanyichukwu, the Country Director of ANDP, stated that the 5,000 two-bedroom bungalow, housing units’ projects would have facilities such as hospitals, schools, police stations and markets.

While noting that the actual construction would commence after the groundbreaking ceremony, the project was conceived to assist the low-income earners to have homes of their own.
