Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, has appealed for federal government support against frequent fire disasters in the state, the influx of illegal immigrants as well as the relocation of the Ikoyi Prisons.
The governor spoke Wednesday when the Minister of Interior, retired Lt. General Abdulrahman Dambazau visited him at the State House, Alausa, Ikeja.
According to him, there is need for the Federal Fire Service to collaborate with the Lagos State Fire Service to jointly combat fire disasters which had done much damage in the state.
Ambode who said partnership between the state government and the federal government was more about development of the country because Lagos mirrored Nigeria, further sought collaboration of the NSCDC as well as the Nigerian Legion in protecting public facilities in the state.
He added that there was need to check the influx of illegal immigrants into Lagos State because of the security implications of such influx, as well as a need to relocate the Ikoyi Prisons from the present site. He said the state government was ready to work with the federal government to achieve all these.
Gen. Dambazau had earlier commended Governor Ambode for his administration’s investment in security equipment, noting that the donation of equipment worth N4.8billion to the police including three helicopters, patrol vehicles, gun boats, power bikes, among others, was a bold initiative to give priority to the safety of the people.
