Ambode To Build New Schools, Roads In Ajasa-Command & Abesan Communities

The Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, says he will establish schools and build new roads in the Ajasa-Command and Abesan communities.

Ambode, who expressed displeasure at the state of roads in the communities, promised the residents that work would start on some of the roads in two weeks.

The governor spoke during an inspection tour of the areas on Thursday, adding that the poor state of many roads in the communities was unacceptable to the government.

He said, “Work will commence on roads in the Ajasa-Command and Abesan areas. The projects will accommodate walkways, streetlights and drainage systems.

“I felt sad when I got here to see the state of the roads in this area. It is so displeasing and totally unacceptable to me. I have read several letters written to me by residents and that was why I decided to come to see the state of things myself.

“I will start from where they stopped work previously on Ekoro Road and we will fix the drainage channels from there to Ajasa within the next two weeks. We will not stop at that; we will fix the roads also. We are also going to fix this road from Command Bridge down to Command and Ikola.

“In addition to that, we are bringing schools into these communities. One of our priorities for 2016 is to provide schools and health centres for all our communities and we will make sure that these parts of Lagos are well represented in that provision.”

Earlier at the Command Military School, the Deputy Director in the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Rasheed Akindele, told the governor that there was a high volume of vehicular movement in the areas as residents preferred to link Ipaja and Ayobo through the areas from Alagbado, adding that the roads deteriorated due to neglect.

Responding on behalf of the communities, a resident, Samuel Babatope, expressed optimism that the visit of the governor was a confirmation that the roads would be fixed.
