The Africa Union of Architects (AUA), as part of its social responsibilities, in conjunction with the Uganda Society of Architects, is planning to hold a programme aiming at addressing the issue of slum in Africa.
This event is to brainstorm in finding Africa solutions that will be applicable to all communities within the continent.
The theme of event is titled: Solutions to Urban Slums: Building on Communities, Knowledge & Heritage (Urban Thinkers Campus)
In a statement signed by the AUA President, Otunba Tokunbo Omisore, Thinkers Campus is a thematic regional campus to be held as part and parcel of the triennial Congress of the AUA. It is to be hosted Kampala Capital City Authority and Ministry of Lands Housing & Urban Development, Uganda.
It shall be comprised of a focus group of five member countries from eastern Africa i.e. Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Kenya and Sudan, who shall provide speakers and case studies, with the rest of Africa providing delegates from various constituent groups to debate, learn and discuss the pertaining issues
Socially Responsible Architecture is to invite all partners of progress to the Africa Urban Thinkers Campus at Kampala 2015 to unlock the vision of the Africa Urban Agenda to Habitat III and beyond – Africa Agenda 2063.
The event, is to take place from 5 – 7 August 2015, in Kampala, Uganda.
The questions that should be asking are: “Who lives here? Why do people live here? How does it get to this? Is this inevitable? Are these extra-ordinary people? What are their stories? Who is responsible?”
“To this end, can interventions be refined”?
“The Africa Union of Architects asks, if perhaps, fresh answers lie within their communities; perhaps from their African heritage and their innate aspirations. What are your answers? People are invited to discuss and debate, and share your stories, told and untold”, said the statement.
