Bayelsa LG chairman calls on FG to tackle environmental degradation and erosion

Reports show that the chairman of Brass Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, Bello Bina, has called on the Federal Government to tackle the issue of environmental degradation and erosion without delay, to prevent possible loss of lives and property.

Vanguard reports that Bina said that though the local government administration had taken over some shoreline protection projects abandoned by Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC and the Federal Government, the effort had helped to check the rising surge of the ocean tide.

According to him, communities in Brass were gradually being lost to the surging ocean.

Bina, during the visit of the Minister of Environment, Hajia Amina Mohammed, to Twon-Brass as part of her assessment tour of oil bearing areas in the Niger Delta, lamented the plight of the people, decrying the noticeable lack of attention by the Federal Government was giving to communities of the region, particularly Brass council of Bayelsa State, despite the enormous oil wealth contributed for the socio-economic survival of the nation, Vanguard reports.
