Construction of 114 roads Created 55,000 jobs – Ambode

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode , the governor of Lagos State  made it known yesterday that through the construction of 114 roads which his administration, in collaboration with local councils across the state, embarked upon early this year, over 55,000 direct and indirect jobs were created.

Ambode who was represented by the Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Toyin Suarau at the official commissioning of some streets at Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government Area where two new streets: Molade and Temidire streets were commissioned, said between January and August this year, his administration invested over N19 billion of the state and local government funds in infrastructural renewal that the 114 road projects represents.

The Commissioner, Mr. Toyin Suarau, representing the governor, said that: “We gave jobs directly to 5,000 construction professionals and artisans and indirectly to over 50,000 dependents.”

Appreciating the community leaders, the governor urged them to take ownership of the projects that were commissioned in their localities, saying “we shall hand over the powering of the streetlights to the Community Development Association, CDAs, and support you to operate them.”

National Mirror reports that later, at the commissioning of Molade Street, being the second, the Ojora of Ojoraland, Oba Abdul-Fatai Oluyinka Aremu Aromire, who represented the governor, said road projects are vital to the development of any community, adding that motorable roads make business strive and engender development.

The monarch called for more infrastructural development, including drainages, schools and health care facilities in the local council area.
