Container-laden Truck Rams Into Commercial Bus In Lagos

No fewer than five persons were seriously injured in an accident involving a container truck and commercial bus, which occurred on Gbagada-Oworonshoki expressway, Lagos State yesterday.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State command, Fatai Owoseni, who was on his way for an official assignment had to stop to assist emergency workers in rescuing the injured.

Owoseni also ensured that the road was cleared for free flow of traffic.

According to Lagos State police spokesperson, Dolapo Badmos, a Superintendent of Police, who confirmed the accident: “The accident caused traffic snarl on Oshodi-Oworonshoki Expressway. Thankfully, there was no death.”

Also confirming the incident, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASTMA) said it received a distress call at about 9:40 a.m. of an accident at Ilupeju-Oshodi expressway inward Anthony.

“On getting to the scene, it was gathered that the container truck while on high speed developed a propeller fault and while attempting to swerve to the next lane, it hit a moving 18-passenger Toyota Hiace commercial bus with registration number Lagos MUS 684XC.

“The timely intervention of the Commissioner of Police, who stopped his convoy and helped assist injured victims, boosted the recovery operation with other responders that included Lagos State Traffic Management Agency, Lagos State Ambulance Service(LASAMBUS) , the Lagos State Emergency Management Services response team and the Nigerian Police from Ilupeju Division.

“No life was lost but the injured victims , three females and two males handed over to LASAMBUS, which conveyed them to Gbagada General Hospital for treatment.”
