Council renovates arts village to build cultural market

The National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC) has said it is reconstructing the arts and craft village into a strictly cultural market.

The council is also optimistic that the new cultural market when completed, will generate over 200 jobs.

Director General of the council, Olusegun Runsewe stated this while inspecting ongoing construction works at the permanent site in Abuja on Monday.

He said the new market which will consist of over 200 shops, an investment center, business center, a bureau de’change, banks, playground for children, a pharmacy, parking space, and others, should be completed and open in the coming months.

Runsewe who said the market will be a one-stop shop for all things culture said the council will also create a one-day monthly night market where things will be sold at subsidized rates.

“We are giving the market a facelift, by modernizing it and giving it a new look. When we are done any Nigerian that is into culture can come and apply for a shop and he will be given, there will not be any political influence to getting a space” he said.

“All the shops we are now building will have pop and proper roofing and not the detached ones that were originally there. No association will now claim to be majority shop owners. Everybody that is interested and has something culturally relative should then apply” he added.
