NIESV Vows To Sanction Unregistered Practitioners

The Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) has vowed to sanction any practitioner who engage valuation service informally without proper registration with the Estate Surveyors and Valuers Registration Board of Nigeria (ESVARBON).

Delivering a speech in Calabar, last week during its 22nd John Wood Ekpenyong Memorial Lecture/Fellows’ Induction ceremony, Chairman of the Board, Mr. William Odudu appealed to such practitioner to heed the voice of reason.

Odudu said such action would eliminate quackery and introduce orderliness in the profession with a view to adhering to world best practices.

He said: “We have discovered that lawyers, accountants, auctioneers who are not qualified to do this job have taken over the profession. Instead of clamping down on them, we are stressing the need for them to come out and get the proper training and also be registered before they can practices as professionals”.

Odudu said although it was not possible for a single individual to give all the services that the Estate Surveying and valuation field provides, it was necessary that those services be regulated by a body.

He enumerated services provided by his organisation to include asset management, auctioneering, valuation of oil and gas, building maintenance management, property management and development, land reform, land registration, planning and analysis, amongst several others.

The 14th President of the institution, Mr. Olayinka Sonaike advocated partnership between single proprietors to widen the scope of the industry, and that succession plans in such outfits help to attract the best brain in the industry.

He called for harmonization for effective service delivery, saying such partnership “has collective ability to compete locally and internationally…the days of single proprietorship are numbered.”
Highlight of the ceremony was the induction of 37 fellows as estate surveyors and Valuers.
