FCTA assures Private sector investors on serviced land for housing projects

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has assured on its commitment to providing serviced land for organized private sector investors in housing so as to make housing delivery easy and accessible.

John Chukwu, FCTA Permanent Secretary, gave this assurance at the opening ceremony of the just concluded Abuja Housing Show. He pledged the administration’s readiness to liaise with relevant ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) and the organized private sector in the provision of affordable housing for the FCT residents and Nigerians as a whole.

He explained that the establishment of the FCT Mass Housing Department was aimed at addressing the housing needs of residents and also to reduce the springing up of slums within capital city.

Chukwu noted that the influx of people from all walks of lives into the territory had necessitated the administration’s resolve to take this proactive step of establishing the department.

“Though the increasing deficit of decent and affordable housing in Nigeria’s urban and rural areas poses major challenges to economic growth, healthy living and development of the entire country, the administration would continue to strengthen the Department to achieve the set goals”, he assured.

He lamented that the resultant effect of the influx of  people to Abuja was growth of overcrowded homes, neighborhoods and communities, which was causing rapid growth of slums,  pointing out that  this development increased pressure on infrastructural facilities, resulting in rapidly deteriorating living environment, health and social order.

According to him, the FCT administration, in addition, has complemented the establishment of the department with the opening up and expanding of district infrastructure in the federal capital city using the private sector.
