Federal Mortgage Bank commences Construction Of 100 Houses In Nasarawa

LAFIA – The Federal Mortgage Bank on Wednesday started the construction of 100 Housing units in Nasarawa State as part of effort to alleviate the plight of Federal Government workers in the country.

Delivery a speech during the flag-off ceremony at Kwamdere in Lafia Local Government Area of the state, the managing director/chief executive officer of the bank, Ahmed Dangiwa, said that the houses would be in the mix of three, two and one bedroom semi-detached bungalows and block of flats.

He said Federal Government in collaboration with Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade Union, and the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association came up with the concept for the delivery of affordable housing to Nigerian workers.

According to Ahmed, “This programme is designed to be implemented in phases. What we are witnessing today is the phase to be run as a pilot to delivery 1,400 housing units across the six geo-political zones in the country.

“Each zone will have 200 houses with 100 units in two selected states. Abuja and Lagos are to be treated as special sites.

“Nasarawa State is lucky to be one of the two states picked in the Northcentral geo-political zone, largely due to its commitment to the NHF scheme amongst others reasons, “ he said.

Responding, Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, who unveiled the plan, lauded the efforts of the Federal Government and bank for the initiative aimed at alleviating the suffering of public servants, who have to contain with the ever-increasing house rents.

The president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Ayuba Waba, expressed gladness over the affordable housing projects.
