FG commences upgrade on Housing Estates across the country

The Federal Government yesterday unveiled its plans to upgrade and maintain all the Housing Estates across the country.
Under this programme, which is tagged: “Intervention of Urban Renewal”, all the housing estates built by the federal government and private individuals would be captured.

To kick off the programme, which is supervised by the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), the Minister of State 11 for Power, Works and Housing, Surveyor Sulaiman Hassan Zarma, visited the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Lugbe, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The minister inspected the 10 kilometre 1st Avenue road within the estate and assured that the federal government would soon fix the road very soon.
Zarma, who attributed the lapses noticed in the estate to planning failure, however, disclosed that buildings built on the waterways would be demolished, saying that any occupant with genuine documents would be compensated.

The Chairman, Federal Housing Authority (FHA) Residents Association, Mr. Odelana Adeshina, while addressing the minister, said that the estate, which now houses over 20,000 families had been over-stretched.

Adeshina, however, appealed to the federal government for the provision of a general hospital within the estate and the general rehabilitation of roads within the estate.

Also speaking, The Managing Director/CEO, Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Prof. Mohammed Al-Amin, explained further that the newly introduced policy on ‘intervention of Urban Renewal, is to take care of adequate maintenance of the all existing government housing estates in the country.

He, however, appealed to Nigerians to imbibe proper maintenance culture in order to preserve all the government and individual structures across the country.
