Gov Tambuwal commissions N200m power plant

Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal has commissioned the over N200 million Arkilla TCN Sub-station 132/33KVA upgraded transformer for power distribution in the state.

New Telegraph reports that under the new arrangements, the state will bid good bye to power outage and when completed the state Independent Power Project (IPP), will operate at full capacity to meet the power needs of people and complement the electricity needs of the country.

According to New Telegraph, the governor, while commissioning the project, yesterday at the Arkilla distribution point, he explained that the IPP had test run for the ninth time out of 11 time stipulated.

Tambuwal, however, noted that the IPP test run had been successful and would soon be fixed and connected to the National Grid for distribution to some parts of the state to complement the power demands of the people.

The governor further noted that the upgraded transformer from 110MVA to 140MVA capacity was to meet the high demand of electricity in Sokoto State. Meanwhile, the TCN boss, Mr. Abubakar Atiku, an engineer, said the idea behind the upgrading the transformer at the cost of over N200 million was to improve transmission and facilitate the distribution capacity at the Arkilla Transmission Sub-Station to meet public power needs.

He explained that the sub-station was commissioned in 1976, with an installed capacity of 15MVA and was subsequently upgraded to meet the increasing overload within the Sokoto metropolis.

“The event of today is to witness the upgrading of the 30MVA to 60MVA capacity resulting to a total capacity of 140MVA for the transmission station,” he said, noting that the transformer has the capacity to accommodate additional 33KVA pillars.”
