15 house hunting struggles only Nigerians can relate to

This list is a compilation of things most Nigerians who have gone house hunting sometime in the past have probably experienced.

Please note that this list is my own light attempt at humour and trying to make you laugh after a hard day at work. Laughter as they say, is the best medicine; so feel free to laugh.

House hunting is exciting and as a result, it is easy to get caught up in the euphoria of a potential new home so much that you get heartbroken by harsh realities. The process hunting is likely to be long and frustrating.

Enough of  the talk for now, look below to find the 15 struggles you probably faced when you went house hunting.

House Hunting Struggles

 

1. When you first think that living on your own will be the best thing that could ever happen to you.

2. When you actually convince yourself that you can find great houses online without going outside.

 

3. But seeing an apartment that actually matches its online description is like discovering oil in Lagos.

4. When you start to realize that what you WANT and what you can AFFORD are vastly different things.

5. You put so many hours into looking for a place that it soon becomes a full-time job, except for one small difference: You’re not even getting paid.

6. When you say you want a house in ‘Sabo, Yaba’, so the agents start trying to convince you that Maryland is also in Yaba.

7. When you think you’ve found a place, then you realize no buses, kekes or even bikes are in the area.

8. When they show you a self-contained in a certifiable dump, and say it’s 400k and they want two years up front.

9. When you ask about the light situation and they say ‘normal Nigerian light’. And you just know you will never see light again

10. When you find a great house, and it’s way out of your price range.

11. When you finally find a perfect place within your range, but before you return from the ATM, someone esle has already paid for it.

12. And then you seriously start considering moving back in with your parents.

13. When you finally lower your standards and move into a place.

14. When the landlord tells you to settle the unpaid water, light, and waste bills of the previous tenant.

15. When one of your friends wants to move out of their parents’ house and needs your advice.
