The Jigawa State Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Adamu Sarki Miga, has said that the state government embarked on demolition of illegal structures to reclaim a road which was in the masterplan.
The commissioner, while speaking with journalists in Dutse, said most of the structures affected by the demolition exercise were those that were built on land carved out of the 30 meters space provided for access road in the layout.
He said: “While erecting the structures, the owners carved out to themselves about 20 meters out of the 30 meters space provided for access road.”
He also dismissed the rumour that the demolishing was for political reasons, saying structures were pulled down irrespective of owner’s political affiliation.
Miga said the present government was committed to its earlier plan for mass housing in the state, adding that as soon as implementation of this year’s budge commences, the project would kick off.
The government had conceived a plan last year to embark on the provision of 1,330 housing units across the 27 local government areas of the state.
