Lagos gubernatorial candidate promises to focus on agriculture

Gubernatorial candidate of Advanced Nigeria Democratic Party (ANDP) for Lagos State, Dr. Oluwasegun Mutairu Musa, has promised to improve Agriculture and revolutionalise the economy of the state if elected in next weekend’s election.

Musa regretted that less than 30 per cent of farmlands available in the state has ever been harnessed for agriculture by past governments, noting that the state should not continue to depend on fluctuating food and animal supplies from the northern part.

The Gubernatorial candidate, who made the promises while briefing journalists in his office in Victoria Island Lagos, explained that his green economic programme would focus on massive food production with over 100 kilometres of vacant farmlands along Epe, Ikorodu and Badagry axis to be exploited for crop and animal husbandry at the first instance.

He stated: “Self-sufficiency is one of my cardinal programmes for Lagos and I will tinker with the Land Use Act to put land in the hands of farmers.”

He listed five key areas that will engage his administration’s attention if elected. They include housing and infrastructure development, blue and green economy, capacity building and job creation, unlocking potential of the local government areas as well as sports and entertainment.

“I promise to take development beyond building bridges, roads, bus stops, and flowers if voted as governor in February 2019,” he stressed.

He remarked that it is quite pathetic that past development efforts in Lagos were centered only on the execution of cosmetic projects masquerading as infrastructural development. He promised to run a people-oriented government and decentralise power to the grassroots so that the councils can be developed.

He said: “I will decongest traffic electronically in Lagos with our new E-Government policy, which will ensure that government operations are fully decentralised and by the grace of God, we will engage the youths to design Apps to make all these possible for the good of our people.”

Dr. Musa also revealed that he is determined to serve Lagosians and take development beyond building bridges, roads, bus stops and flowers in the state if granted the insignia of power on March 2 gubernatorial elections.

The aviation and maritime expert also said he had a road map to decongest Apapa and return it to its previous state, adding that he would engage and work with other political parties in the state and within the Southwest zone if voted into power.

“I will collaborate with Ondo State Government to ensure that the 45-kilometre Epe–Araromi Road is reconstructed to decongest traffic along Lagos/Ibadan Expressway and boost inter-state trade and other economic activities.”
