Lagos State to build five art theatres

The Lagos State government has revealed plans to build five art theatres to engage youths and promote tourism.

The Nation reports that Governor Akinwunmi Ambode announced this at a stage play, titled: “Heartbeat The Musical…A New Beginning,” at the MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos.

The play was directed by Olu Jacobs and Joke Silva.

According to The Nation, the governor said the theatres would be ready before end of next year.

The governor said he was impressed by the production, saying it was a confirmation that Lagos is the destination for arts, culture and entertainment.

He said: “I never believed I could sit for two hours. I thought I would just pop in briefly and then leave, but this is awesome and fantastic, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Before end of next year, we are going to have five new theatres in Lagos.

“We are engaging Terra Kulture and we are speaking to another consultant and the truth is we want to have the theatres in Badagry, Epe, Ikorodu, Alimosho and on the Mainland.

“We already have one on Victoria Island. But the truth is this is where the energy of Lagos is and that is where we should go.”
