LGs encouraged to embark on useful projects

The National Assembly consultant on Projects Monitoring, Kayode Adegbayo, while speaking at Ogrute, Enugu Ezike, in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Council during the inspection tour of projects executed by the council, called on local governments in the country to embark on projects that would impact on the lives of the people at the grassroots.

Vanguard reports that, Adegbayo said the call had become imperative as some local government chairmen had formed the habit of executing projects which were not beneficial to the people, pointing out that such actions will defeat the aims and objectives for the creation of the councils as the third-tier of government.

He commended the governor of Enugu State, Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for creating the enabling environment for local government chairmen in the state to perform.

“What I saw in Igbo-Eze North is a testimony of the governor’s encouragement for the council chairmen in the state to execute people- oriented projects,” he added.

Adegbayo praised the Chairman of Igbo-Eze North Local Government, Comrade Uwakwe Ezeja for commitment towards providing massive dividends of democracy to the people noting that the team had witnessed spheres of physical development projects springing up in all sectors such as building of class room blocks, roads, health centres, rural electrification and provision of electric transformers for distribution to different communities.

He further expressed contentment at the tempo with which meaningful people’s projects were going on in the council area and called on other local government chairmen in the state to emulate Ezeja.

Also, Vanguard reports that the Chairman of the council, Comrade Ezeja, while speaking at the occasion, said that since the emergence of governor Ugwuanyi, the local government council had keyed into his developmental agenda in a bid “to emulate the people’s governor in providing massive dividends of democracy that would impact on the lives of the people.

“I want to point out that His Excellency’s concern about the plight of rural dwellers has made us to engage in concrete projects that touch on the lives of the people. By this development, it becomes obvious that local government administration is returning to what it ought to be,” he added.
