MFF Urges FG To Embrace Affordable Housing As National Priority

The Chief Executive Officer of Millard Fuller Foundation (MFF), Mr. Sam Odia has appealed to the federal government to embrace the provision of affordable housing to Nigerians as part of its national priority programmes as enshrined in the constitution and United Nations Charter on Human Right.

MFF is a faith-based organization which promotes collaborative and innovative partnerships aimed at providing sustainable affordable housing with assistance from donor agencies in Nigeria and abroad.

To this end, he disclosed that MFF has commenced the development of affordable housing in Masaka, Nasarawa State through My Fuller, My House Campaign project targeted at reducing the 17 million housing deficit.

The 400-unit Grandluvu project sited at Masaka in Nasarawa State is strictly for low income earners as one room self-contain is sold for N1.65million while the one bedroom flat also goes for N2.53million.

Briefing newsmen in Abuja yesterday, he maintained that the cost of buildings could reduce as low as N1 million per unit if government accepted to foot infrastructure bill, which he believed was in line with APC-led government manifesto to provide one million homes a year at the cost of N1 million.

According to him, “The housing need in Nigeria is so great that donor funding, government subvention and other traditional sources of funding will never be sufficient to meet the need of Nigerians presently put at N60 trillion, so the affordable housing industry must be able to source the majority of its funding from the private equity and capital markets.

Also speaking, the Chairman, Board of Directors in MFF, Mr. Solomon Maiwada Yero described legal and environmental circumstances as roadblocks towards the provision of affordable housing.
