Mike Okiro Absent In Court Over Property Case

A former Inspector General of Police, Mr Mike Okiro, last Thursday, failed to appear before Justice Baba Yusuf of the FCT High Court in Maitama for a property case with Kundu Nigeria Limited.
The judge who awarded N25, 000 cost in favour of the plaintiff, held that Okiro’s lawyer had shown that he wanted to contest the case.
The defence counsel filed a motion for two other independent parties to join in the suit but the judge struck out the motion, saying the defence could not request the court to allow other parties join in the case when the defence itself was yet to become part of the case by filing a motion of appearance.
However, the defence counsel, Mr. Ayodeji Ademola, urged the court to grant them a short stay to file a motion of appearance and join two other parties in the case.
According to Mr. Ademola, the defendant confirmed that a senator called the plaintiff to resolve the matter out of court and that contributed to the defendant’s absence and the counsel’s delay in filing the relevant motion.
It would be recalled that the plaintiff had earlier submitted a motion to the court asking it to prevent Okiro, until the case is tried, from removing all the renovations due to a dispute over an alleged agreement to refund renovation costs.
