Nasarawa Govt. Reserves N200m To Construct Disease Isolation Centre

Nasarawa State Government has reserved N200 million in the 2016 budget to construct isolation centre to check the spread of disease outbreaks in the state.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Daniel Iya, told newsmen on Friday in Lafia that the construction of the centre had become imperative in view of the recent outbreak of Lassa fever in parts of the state.

“The construction of the centre will help in the containment of highly infectious diseases, thereby reducing the fatality rate.

“It will also enhance the proper handling of patients presenting symptoms of infectious diseases,’’ Iya said.

He said that the government was committed to boosting healthcare delivery system in the state, especially through the upgrade of primary health centers with drugs and other equipment.

“Most of our people reside in the rural areas and the best way to deliver quality and affordable healthcare services to them is to ensure that the PHCs are properly equipped and made functional with health personnel to man them and government is poised to do that,” Iya said.

He said the state primary healthcare development agency had done a lot to revamp the PHCs and expressed optimism that the agency would redouble its efforts in line with the desire of the Gov. Umaru Al-Makura. (NAN)
