Nasarawa State partners with FG on power, mass housing

The Governor of Nasarawa State, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, has said that his government has entered into collaboration with federal government to provide critical infrastructures lacking in the state, such as power and mass housing.

Vanguard reports that the governor, while speaking to State House Correspondents after a private meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential Villa, Abuja on Wednesday, said the collaboration was necessary to provide shelter for the teeming population within the borders of Nasarawa State and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

He said that already the federal government has put in place a robust power infrastructure in the state to support  the government’s industrial revolution plan.

He also stated that the government had acquired 13,000 hectares of land for mass housing, saying that when completed it would depopulate the FCT.

“I came to thank the president on the effort the federal government is making towards industrializing Nasarawa State through provision of robust power infrastructure in the state.

“Only two weeks ago, a team was sent to ensure continuation of the process of injecting a substation which is likely to provide the 330 KV line substation that will be the foundation for effective power supply in the state. That I have come to show my appreciation on behalf of the people of the State to Mr. President.

“Also, another issue that has to do with mass housing and plan area. It is the issue of the 13,000 hectares which had been earmarked for a planned area which will take care of both mass housing and industrial power.

“Having that very close to the federal capital is something that adds a lot of value to the life of the people living within the federal capital and Nasarawa state as well. This will help relieve the FCT with the congestion and gridlock with regards to population explosion.

“By the time this 13,000 hectares is fully taken off, a lot of people within the federal capital and Nasarawa benefiting from it. This will substantially reduce the congestion and explosion of population within the FCT.

“Already, with this understanding and collaboration, the activities of speculators had reduced to the barest minimum. By the time it is ready, I am sure that everybody within and Abuja and Nasarawa will smile”, he said.
