Nigeria’s MDG Office Constructs One Borehole with N154 Million

Reports have revealed how Nigeria’s Millennium Development Goals (MDG) used a shocking amount of  N154.2 million to construct a single borehole in Abuja.

According to Premium Times, the MDG spent a whooping N154.2 million on drilling just a single borehole which one can averagely do for N1.5 million in Abuja. A hydrology firm who talked to Premium Times made it known that that N1.5 million will go a long way in conveniently covering for drilling and casing, installation of a solar-powered submersible pump, steel tower for the tanks, tanks, pipes, joints & suckers, installation and labour. The firm however expanded the estimate to N10 million on the excuse that a water treatment facility might be included alongside other optional accessories.

However, the Abuja borehole, which was constructed at Gwarinpa by the MDG, does not have anything close to all these facilities listed above but was ‘put in place’ for a whooping N154.2 million. When Premium Times visited the borehole in June 2015, it was no longer working and serving the main purpose it was originally put in place for. Still, the Abuja MDG office told this newspaper it was more concerned with service delivery to the people, than the amount it takes to do so.

The Gwanrinpa borehole which was constructed at N154, 242,200, according to the contract and budget papers, is located at Galadima ‘I’ community of the estate. The contract was awarded to Zarm Global Service on March 28, 2008. The company has no address, contact person or telephone number. Another N110.6 million was paid for the construction of a borehole at Tungan Nasara community of Jiwa Ward in Abuja Municipal Area Council. The contract was awarded to Global And Global Venture Limited on March 29, 2008. Also, the company has no address or contact person.
