NLC, Kano state to construct 500 housing units

According to PM News, the Kano State Chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has concluded plans to construct 500 housing units for the civil servants in the state.

The state NLC chairman, Mr Kabiru Minjibir made the disclosure when he inspected the ongoing housing project being undertaken by the union in Kano on Wednesday.

He said when completed, the housing units would reduce the accommodation problem being faced by the civil servants, especially in the state capital.

Minjibir added that the project would be executed by a private developer after which the union would pay for the cost of the project.

The NLC Chairman said, “We are hoping that the ongoing project at Jan Guza area, along Gwarzo road would be completed by December.

“The only issue that caused a little delay for the project is the issue of compensation which some landowners in the area have taken the NLC and the state government to court”.

He, however, expressed the hope that the issue would soon be resolved out of court by the three parties involved.

Minjibir then commended the state government for awarding contracts for a number of road projects across the 44 Local Government Areas of the state.

He said the road projects would not only link the state capital with other parts of the state but, would enhance socio-economic activities of the benefitting communities.

According to him, the newly constructed road at Rijiyar Zaki area had alleviated the sufferings of the people of the area as they could now transport goods to various parts of the city from the area.

“Provision of roads, especially in the rural areas, will go a long way in enhancing socio-economic activities as people can move freely without any hitch,” he said.

He also commended the state government for providing solar powered boreholes to Janguza Army Barrack and other communities at Lambu village.

He noted that the provision of the boreholes in Lambu village had reduced the hardship being experienced by the communities in getting safe drinking water.
