Oga Martins & His Kettle of Fishes 4.0 – Episode 5

Solonzo and Deji were back from prison, this was bad for Martins because both of them had scores to settle with him. He was really in a dilemma and he feared the worse. Though he could understand why Deji had a personal vendetta with him but he wasn’t sure what it was Solonzo wanted with him.

Martins had been summoned to the MD’s office after Solonzo had departed the premises. He had some explaining to do. Why this particular incident involving the strange man that paid an unwelcome visit to the Manager – Marketing, Agency and Sales drew the MD’s attention was because their paths had crossed while Solonzo was leaving the premises. After Rufus had confirmed that the interloper had come looking for Martins, It was time for the MD to probe why such questionable character would have any dealings with his Manager Marketing, Agency and Sales.

“Good day Sir.”

“Good day Martins”

“You requested to see me”

“Please have a seat”

“Thank you sir” Martins takins a seat opposite his boss

“I learnt the armoured tank in human clothing was your guest”

Armoured tank?”

“You know exactly who I’m talking about”

“Oh, he’s name is Solonzo”

“Yes sir”

“So I’m guessing you guys are acquaintances”

“I don’t know him sir. He only introduced himself as Solonzo”

“Am suspecting he lost his way”

“You are suspecting?”

“I mean he must have lost his way sir”

“To the company or your office”

“The company before my office sir”

“Martins are you playing ball with me

“Not at all sir, I was also shocked to see him in my office”

“Look Martins, the last time it was two ladies tearing down you office, both your acquaintances. Now we get a supposed courtesy call from a gangster. Pray tell, is there something you think I should know”

“It won’t happen again sir”

“Martins, are you being threatened in your line of duty? Should I bring in the police?”

“No sir! It’s hasn’t gotten to that. I assure you that everything is under control”

“It had better be because the next time some ‘out of place’ thing happens here and your name is mentioned, my conversation with you won’t be this friendly.”

“I promise it won’t happen again sir?”

“Good! Away from that, I hope you are gearing up for your presentation to the board next week?”

“I am sir”

“I trust you to prove to the board that you are capable of improving sales here, and invariably turn around the fortunes of the company”

“I’ll do my best sir”

“That will be all for now”

Martins was at crossroads, his life was heading back the direction he had long removed from his annals. His past was catching up with him yet again. Sales had dropped tremendously in his company and his competence had been questioned by the company’s manangement. He never saw it coming, not after he had rejected offers from one of the biggest real estate companies in the country to remain in Realty Point Limited, following his rapid growth and success in his marketing career in previous years.

As if that was not enough, trouble was brewing elsewhere. The strange man that had come into his office uninvited had called him up requesting for a meeting between the duo. Martins had to talk to his wife about it when he got back from work before he could give in to Solonzo’s demand

“I don’t get you dear, who is Solonzo and what does he want from you?”

“Baby I have no idea. He came to my office uninvited, looking like a gangstar and raising eyebrows. And all he told me before he left my office was that I had something that belongs to him.”

“You have something that belongs to him? Okay, now you are confuse me further”

“So am I sweetie. I mean how is that even possible?”

“But he won’t come for you if he had no business with you. Martins, out of over 170 million Nigerians why should it be you? Why are you the one keeping what belongs to a criminal?”

“We don’t know that for sure”

“Really? You just said a gangster came to your office uninvited, asking for something you have no idea of and raising suspicions in your work place, yet you think he meant no harm? You don’t believe he is a criminal? Probably you know what this is about then”

“Of course I don’t. But I think its connected to Ada’s mysterious disappearance”

“Ada? But she’s dead”

“So what does Ada got to do with this?”

“He said if I remember Ada then I would know what it is he wants from me”

“Hmm…Did you guys have an affair?”

“Which guys?”

“You and Ada?”

Aisha’s question throws Martins off-balance.”Aisha are you for real?”

“I should be asking you that question”

“You must be kidding me. Is that what the bone of contention should be now or we should be cracking our heads on who the mystery guy really is and what he really wants from your husband?”

“Darling look, whatever it is you have in your possession that is not yours, please quickly hand it over to ‘the mystery guy’ before you put not only your life at risk but every other person around you. We are expecting a baby remember?Nothing must go wrong this time or we will forever remain sworn enemies”

Having sounded her note of warning, Aisha left Martins in the living room to his own devices. Then, he phone rings on the sofa where he had placed it. ” Solonzo!”  It was time to see Solonzo; time to finally get to the root of the matter.
