Ondo state government announced last week that the design for dualisation of Ikare Township road has commenced in earnest, while contractors, recently jump-started a 2.5-kilometers of road within the Igbokoda Township as part of its urban renewal programme.
Government officials said necessary earthwork on the Igbokoda Township project has reached advanced stage while the entire work done was about 41per cent before it was handed over to OSOPADEC for speedy completion.
The projects are coming on the heels of the completion of roads in the state, including, Fiwasaye-Oba Adesida –Oyemekun expressway, to Ilesha/Owo, a 9.3 kilometers dual carriageway; dualisation of Arakale road, Adesida –Oyemekun road; Isinkan/Army barrack dual carriageway; and the second phase of the Akure garage through Yaba-Idi Ishin-Surulere to Ife garage roundabout.
Similarly, the dualization of 8.95 kilometers, Mobil Junction in Akure, through Oba Ile to Airport has also been awarded and work is now at advanced stage of completion.
In Ondo Town, two major roads have been upgraded and dualised as Ondo Phases I and II. The 5.45 Kilometers Phase 1, that stretches from Itanla Junction through Ademulegun road to Ife garage roundabout has been completed, with all necessary amenities put in place, with assurance that the road will be delivered any moment from now as finishing touches are being put in place.
The dualisation exercise was also replicated in the northern senatorial district of the state where the ancient city of Owo had its own share of the infrastructure provision.
The 10.2-kilometer road has been dualised with all necessary paraphernalia of a befitting modern carriageway. About 2.5 kilometers of road within the Igbokoda Township is being dualised.
Necessary earthwork on the project has reached advanced stage while the entire work done was about 41percent before it was handed over to OSOPADEC for speedy completion. Speaking on the development.
The State’s Commissioner for Information, Mr. Kayode Akinmade stated that road dualization remains a major index of urban renewal and a leading parameter for the scorecard of any government.

According to him in the transformation agenda of any given state or community, road dualization is sacrosanct. “Before the advent of the Mimiko led government, past administrations lacked the political will to put in place an all round transformational urban renewal vis-a-vis road dualization in any of the major cities in the state, hence, the lull in the economic profile of the Sunshine State.
When the present administration came on board in 2009, it inherited the old dual carriageway in Akure, the Oba Adesida-Oyemekun road which existed without any furniture or expected features to make it worthwhile. “It is therefore pertinent to put on record that the present government in the state has recorded monumental achievements in this area which are visible across the three senatorial districts of the state”, he said.
