The Ondo State Government has concluded plans to build two additional Mother and Child hospitals in its Southern and Northern Senatorial Districts.
Kayode Akinmade, the state Commissioner for Information, who made this known on Sunday in a statement in Akure, said it would bring the total number of the Mother-and-Child hospitals to four..
According to the Commissioner, the government is determined to consolidate on the success so far recorded by the government’s Safe Motherhood programme, which runs basically on the operations of the Mother-and-Child hospitals.
He said that the World Health Organisation (WHO) chose Mother-and-Child Hospitals in Akure and Ondo as research centres because of their accomplishments of health initiatives.

Akinmade reiterated the government’s determination to ensure that all the senatorial districts in the state were exposed to good and quality health facilities.
He noted that government would do everything to actualize it’s resolve in ensuring that pregnancy no longer translate to death sentence in the state.
The Commissioner recalled that Safe Motherhood Programme necessitated the building of the Mother-and-Child Hospitals in 2009 for the treatment of pregnant women and children below the age of 5 – free of charge.
