Real estate manager carts away employer’s N3.1 million

Lagos –  A 38-year-old real estate manager working with a company, Olaitan Faramaiye, who allegedly stole his employer’s N3.1 million, was on Wednesday docked at a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

The accused is facing a charge of stealing. He, however, pleaded not guilty.

But the Prosecutor, Sgt. Anthonia Osayande, told the court that the accused committed the offence between 2009 and Nov. 16, 2017 at No. 30/32, Ojuelegba Road, Surulere.

Osayande said the real estate manager, a facility manager at Terraform Ltd, a real estate company, converted sales made from sale of some properties to personal use.

“The accused had fraudulently told clients to transfer money into his account instead of the company’s account.

“All the transactions that had occurred in the last eight years were paid directly to the accused’s account,’’ she said.

The offence contravened Section 287 (7) Laws of Lagos State 2015 (Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section provides seven years imprisonment for offenders.

Chief Magistrate Arike Ipaye-Nwachuckwu granted the accused bail in the sum of N300, 000 with two responsible sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until Feb. 22 for trial.
