Ruler of Dubai approves $900 million of housing schemes

Housing projects worth $900 million (AED3.6 billion) have been approved by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai.

Sheikh Mohammed approved the construction of new homes for around 400 citizens at a committee meeting at the Mohammed bin Rashid Housing Establishment on Sunday, state news agency WAM reported.

The committee also approved the construction of new roads for housing developments at a total cost of more than $39 million (AED142.5 million), and 16 houses in the Al Tawyeen area in Fujairah costing around $4.1 million (AED15.3 million).

It also signed off funding for engineering consultancy services for road construction in Al Refaa and Al Jazirah Al Hamra in Ras al-Khaimah, at a total cost of $600,000 (AED2.3 million).

These initiatives, Sheikh Mohammed said, are part of the emirates’ push to make citizens’ welfare a top priority – by providing “dignified living for Emiratis and modernising infrastructure to serve the economy, trade and tourism in all emirates”.

At the meeting MRHE officials also described research for the planned new housing projects that has been carried out since 2010. During this period, 16 studies were undertaken to design eco-friendly housing schemes.
