Security guard charged to court for allegedly stealing employer’s property

A security guard, Adewale Ibrahim, was on Monday brought before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly stealing his employer’s property.

The security guard named Adewale, 36, of Kujore Street in Ojota, is facing a two-count charge of burglary and stealing.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that the accused committed the offences on June 27, at No. 38A, Ogudu Road, Ojota.

Ihiehie said that the complainant, Mrs. Muritala Bolarinwa, whose office is located at the above-mentioned address, reported the case at the Ogudu Police Station on June 26.

He said that the complainant alleged that Adewale broke into her office and stole property worth N80, 000.

He said the complainant closed from work on June 26 at about 4.00p.m.

He said that she resumed work the following day and discovered that her office had been burgled and some goods were stolen.

Ihiehie said the items stolen include: an LG Home Theater comprising a stereo, a DVD and four speakers; all valued at N80, 000.

He said the complainant told the police that she strongly suspected the accused and all efforts made to retrieve the stolen items from him proved abortive.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 309(2) and 287(7) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

The magistrate, Mrs. T. Akanni, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.

Akanni said that the address of the surety must be verified by the prosecutor.

She added that the surety must have a means of livelihood and provide evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government (LASG).

The case was adjourned till 8th of August.
