#ShelterMatters: Which do you prefer, erecting a building or buying an already built house?

The thought of buying a land and erecting your own building to your own taste is good but isn’t buying an entire house anew without going through all the preambles better? Many people have actually reached a deadlock in an attempt to take a decision on the aforementioned premise.

On #shelterMatters we would be looking at your preferences. To buy a land and build your house or to buy an already built house, which do you prefer?

Although, buying a land to build your preferred house might come cheap it also has its own level of intricacies.

When you are constructing a fresh building you have a picture of how your house would look like. A new building project under construction offers you the opportunity of designing your house to your taste and loving every bit of it. Because a plan was arched prior to its construction you would love the house even before it formally comes to life. On the other hand, with a fresh house you can achieve little or nothing with changing or remodeling and even if you try to remodel, it will only mean extra bucks!

Personally, no matter how good buying a land and erecting my own structure is being painted, I would rather buy a house if the resources are readily available. I mean, having to monitor these artisans isn’t a very welcoming job and when you don’t monitor them closely, you get to spend double. That stress is one I will gladly avoid.

A man by the name Charles, a merchant in Ogba, Lagos, Nigeria, made it clear to me that he would rather build a house than buy an already built house. I asked why? He said he is very sure it saves cost and that people buy already built houses out of laziness or just because they want to be in a particular area. As for him, it’s a no no.

Well, call me lazy all you want, I will rather buy a house than build one.

Madam Bisi also said she would rather build a house than buy a house. In her own opinion, she wanted to be sure of where she would be living. She expressed fear of buying a witch hunted apartment. That’s typically coming from another angle.

Daisi said it all depended on how much he will be willing to spend, if he can afford a built house, that is fine, but if otherwise, it’s also welcomed.

  1. The cost of buying is always higher than that of building. I can also build at my own pace if I dont have the money to buy at once. Generaly, i think building is a better option to buying for those who do not have all the cash. Instead of waiting till you have all the money, why not start with what you have and gradually achieve your house.
