#ShelterMatters – Who makes the most noise in your neighborhood?

Noise pollution is a harmful or annoying level of noise, as from airplanes, industry, etc.

Dwelling on noise pollution as it concerns our residential surrounding, one would hope to stay away from all form of disturbance at the sight of one’s shelter but that isn’t the case.

The lack of proper town planning creates room for and opens individuals to risk of any form of pollution – Noise pollution inclusive.

Noise is not inherently harmful to humans or environment. It is when noise becomes unusually loud and uncontrolled that it diminishes the quality of air and adversely affects the environment, public health and welfare.

Noise pollution is one of the environmental hazards affecting humans as well as climate. In most urban areas of the third or developing countries of the world especially Nigeria, there are lots of noise pollutants which include noise from exhaust cars, industrial as well as home generating plants. In advanced countries however, scientific experimentations like launching and re-launching of rockets, bombs and satellites sounds constitutes a major climate pollutant.

With a population of over 21 million people, it doesn’t come as a surprise that the Lagos State Government continues to grapple with the incident of noise pollution in the state. The noise level in Lagos is a complete nuisance

The noises we have to bear in our immediate surrounding range from Generator sounds, to car horns, construction/industrial noise, Religious centers, machinery noise, Audio CD sellers and not forgetting the fighting neighbors.

Personally, I, just as many others, bear the noise which emanates from power generating sets as we all are guilty as charged considering the power situation in the country albeit better power supply in the past couple of weeks.

Today on ShelterMatters, we want to find out which amongst these 3 sources of noise pollution – Religious centers, Audio CD sellers or Vehicle engine noise and horns, causes the major form of noise in our immediate surroundings.

I think if you live close to an audio CD seller, then you won’t have to think twice before choosing then and as for religious centers? What say you?
