Sokoto State test runs N3.8 billion IPP plant

New Telegraph reports that after eight years of the award of the N3.8 billion Sokoto State Independent Power Project (IPP), the plant was yesterday test run to commence full operation.

The IPP was awarded in November 2008 by the immediate past administration of Governor Aliyu Magakarda Wamakko. The 38 megawatts capacity power plant was officially fired up as part of the series of tests lined up to kick start the actual evacuation of power for transmission and distribution, New Telegraph reports.

According to New Telegraph, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Bashir Garba said that the test run was a successful signal that the turbine had been duly installed for the plant to on load and inject power to the National Grid for distribution to the networks for the benefiting public.

New Telegraph also reports that the Chief Operations Officer of Vulcan Elvaton, the firm handling the project, Mr. Franklin Ngbor, on his part said: “This is the first stage and it is successful.

We did the same process three times before today. The plant, which has 33,000 litres diesel capacity consumption in 24 hours also, has multiple mechanisms to alternate its operation using fuel, diesel and LPG.”
