The BROUHAHA of OGA MARTINS 2.0 | Chapter 17

Deji’s living room was as quiet as a graveyard. Again, Martins wished Deji was around to ease the tension between him and Aisha. He still found it pretty difficult believing all Aisha had told him about her Machiavellian plans for him and Ada; a plan that indirectly led to the death of Aisha’s colleague at work. The moment Aisha told Martins that the client was part of a grand set-up, Martins could no longer deal with Aisha’s presence in the living room. He still couldn’t understand what Aisha’s ill-timed plan was really about. The whole thing felt like child’s play.

“Which serious-minded person would even think of that as a punishment?” Martins pondered.

Once again, Martins had reasons to propose an evaluation of Aisha’s mental health like he did several years ago.

It had become evident that Aisha never forgave Martins all along. His actions had caused her an extra year in school; she knew he had to pay back one way or the other.

Ada on the other hand got tangled in Aisha’s Machiavellian blueprint after her actions had led to Aisha’s sack from Realty Point; the company she worked for a year ago. Ada had remained in the company and even got promoted the same year Aisha’s contract with the company was terminated, whilst Martins joined Ada at the company later. To Aisha, the die was cast. He only had to kill two birds with a stone, hence she set up a fake client with the duo.

Aisha’s plan was suppose to lead to the eventual sack of Ada, albeit Tunde’s death saw to it that the plan stopped on its tracks.

Finally, Martins had answers to the questions that haunted his thoughts. He now knew what it was between Aisha and Ada that made them sworn enemies.

While she was at Realty Point Limited, Aisha had converted a client’s monthly installments for a land he was transacting, for personal use and couldn’t replace the money until the issue was brought to the notice of the company’s management board. Aisha and Ada had been made to face a disciplinary panel after Aisha had accused Ada of refusing to pay back the money she had borrowed her. However, Ada refuted the allegation before the disciplinary panel. Ada had gone on to tell the disciplinary panel that Aisha was fond of converting her client’s monies for personal use until it was going to become an issue, but that this time around she had gone too far with her sport. According to Ada, Aisha’s faux pas was embroiling her into her last transaction before she was later left in the cold by her employers. Aisha was seen to have taken advantage of her seemingly close ties with Ada and had attempted to make Ada convince her employers that she indeed had borrowed 200,00 naira from her; the money meant for the supposed client.

In fairness, Ada had betrayed her long-standing friend when she denied ever collecting such huge sum of money before the panel. What happened in the hearing before the disciplinary panel set up by Realty point only a year ago shocked Aisha to her marrows; she had remained speechless before the panel as she watched her friend rant about her non-existent cunning ways and consequently putting an end to her marketing job at Realty point. Worse still, Ada never paid back.

Aisha had lost both ways; it was one of the worst moments of her life. She had never felt betrayed the way Ada did betray her since she learned to pronounce the word, “mama”.

No one ever believed her story. Therefore, the moment she found out that Martins had joined Realty Point he knew one way or the other both erstwhile friends of hers would hear from her soon. She just didn’t know how best to make them pay for their betrayal and the hurt they had caused her.

Martins finally found his tongue after a long moment of silence and reflections.

“Aisha, so the Engineer was really not an Engineer”

Aisha nodded her head from where she sat just opposite Martins.

“The media were spot on with their reports after all. His real name was actually Tunde Phillips, your boss’s Personal Assistant, and obviously you were sleeping with him. You guys were smitten.” Martins is aggrieved.

Ada throws him a questioning look

“Oh please don’t give me that look, your story tells it all. You know, it still baffles me that you could hurt that much and still be able to play such costly pranks. Don’t you think we deserved more?”

“I wasn’t thinking straight. The thought of the whole thing was like a rush of blood to the head. The plan was for Ada to get sacked from converting a deal meant for you. Tunde was suppose to make that happen just before the deal was going to be sealed; not like it was ever going to be anyways. Then, you were my bait”

“So, Engineer…sorry, your Tunde was never going to buy any land?”

“No he wasn’t.”

“You know, when you missed his call during our outing at leisure mall, I knew something was amiss after I confirmed he had the same number with the Engineer Adetukasi on my phone. Anyway, it’s so sad that he’s dead now. Like they say; what goes around comes around”

Tears begin to well up in Aisha’s eyes again.

“He didn’t deserve such tragic end” Aisha gets emotional.

“I’m sorry I let that out” Martins apologized, realizing his mistake. “So, you killed two birds with a stone, huh?” Aisha fails to respond.

“Aisha, the part I still don’t get is how you were so certain that your boyfriend was still going to end up with Ada?”

“Martins, he was not my boyfriend!”

“Sorry, another error. So, can you at least make me understand the part where your guy ended up as Ada’s client?”

Aisha gives the question a thought for some seconds.

“You know you had told me the day Tunde called you that you were gonna let me know when you get to the office. And I asked you how you were going to achieve that since you were without a phone then, right?” Aisha asked.

“Yeah…And I told you Ada usually borrowed me her phone during office hours” Martins replied.

“That was all the info I needed to perfect my plan. Tunde called you to introduce the deal, I knew you were gonna be in cloud nine and as usual go relay it to your boss, Ada.”

“Why were you so certain I was gonna do that?”

“…because you had always done same for your previous deals; you always let her in on your deals and knowing Ada for the snitch and greedy asshole she is, there was no way she was going to let that deal slip off her. I figured you would be stupid enough to leave Tunde’s number on her phone, and I knew Ada would be treacherous enough to retrieve the number from the phone she borrowed you and be quick to pull a call through to Tunde. It was a done deal!”

“So you led us on? Oh my God! Aisha! You are a snake!”

“I perfectly agree with you Martins. I’m a snake, a big one for that matter. But you and Ada are bigger snakes, in fact both of you are vipers!”

Deji walked into the living room unnoticed.

“Aisha!” Deji is excited on sighting Aisha

“Deji!” Aisha is in a state of shock at Deji’s sudden appearance, she hadn’t set her eyes on him in 5 years

“You live here?”

“Yes I do”

“Martins! Why didn’t you tell me? Goodness…” Aisha is infuriated. She’s lost for words.

“Good to see you too”

The Brouhaha continues…
