Zamfara commends late Minister’s family over construction of Health center

The Zamfara government has lauded the family of former Minister of Finance, late Alhaji Muhammad Lugga, over the construction of primary health center in Lugga community, Maru Local Government Area of the state.

The Commissioner of Health, Alhaji Lawal M-Liman, made the commendation in an interview with newsmen in Gusau on Tuesday.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Luggas, had last week, commenced construction of PHC in Lugga Community in memory of their late father.

Lugga was also former District Head of Lugga and former Chairman, Bank of the North, now Unity Bank.

M-Liman described the efforts of the family of the deceased as timely and a welcome development.

He said: “We welcome this initiative and we consider it as a good partnership with state government to improve healthcare delivery in the state.

“This is in line with the state government commitment’s to improve healthcare delivery at primary level.

“I have directed the Executive Secretary of the State Primary Health Care Development Agency to work hand in hand with the family and Lugga Community to ensure the target is achieved.

“The present administration, led by Alhaji Abdul’aziz Yari, is working hand in hand with the development partners to upgrade 147 primary health care centers cutting across the 14 local government areas of the state.”

M-Liman said the state government planned to have a standard and functional primary health center in each of the 147 political wards in this state.

He said: “After completion, we are going to provide the centers with health personnel, drugs and hospital equipment for the smooth take-up.’’

He called on other communities in the state to emulate Lugga’s family.

M-Liman said: “This is part of what we are always advocating; we want to have more community participation in the healthcare delivery so as to support government’s efforts in this regard.

“Our women face difficulties during pregnancy; some of them lost their lives during labour due to poor accessibility to health facility, especially in the rural areas.

“Though, the state government is making efforts to improve healthcare delivery, it cannot cater for all the needs of citizens on healthcare delivery alone.

“Other stakeholders must join hands with the state government to ensure improved healthcare delivery for the people.’’
