Fire destroys Ondo school’s property

Properties worth millions of naira were gutted by fire at the Akoko Anglican Grammar School in Arigidi Akoko, Akoko North-West Local Government Area of Ondo State on Sunday.

It was gathered that the fire, which started around 9 am, burnt down the school’s skills acquisition workshops.

According to an eyewitness, some of the items destroyed by the inferno included sewing machines, hairdryers, and some other vocational equipment in the school.

The eyewitness said, “Many important pieces of equipment were destroyed by the fire, which raged for more than an hour. The men of the state fire service were not seen on the scene to extinguish the fire.

“The Ikare Akoko Fire Station is the nearest to the scene of the incident, but we couldn’t find the fire service personnel to do something about the inferno, maybe it is because they don’t have functional vehicles.”

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, CSP Femi Joseph, confirmed the incident and said the cause of the inferno was still unknown.

“We have commenced investigation into the incident,” the PPRO stated.
