Ikorodu residents complain bitterly over bad roads

Lagos communities along Agura-Gberigbe road in Ikorodu area of the state, which include Agura, Gberigbe, Igbodu, Ewu-Owa, Mowo-nla, Oke-Agbo, Oko-ito, among others have lamented the bad state of their roads, with residents experiencing restriction of movement when the roads become impassable, especially whenever it rains.

Chairman of the community, Pastor Taiwo Kayode, lamented that children can not go to schools and workers find it difficult to get to their work places while many house owners are abandoning their properties. “Movement has further been constrained because commercial vehicles are no longer plying the roads for fear of their vehicles being damaged, and the few that still ply the route are charging more than 400 per cent higher than the usual cost,” he said.

Kayode noted that the local council has made several efforts in the past by filling the gullies with stones, but the huge stones end up damaging their vehicles rather than stabilizing the roads. The only alternative route is to travel several kilometres through Imota, a neighboring town in Ikorodu, to link to other destinations.

The community leader, therefore, pleaded with the Lagos State governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, to extend his good works, especially on road rehabilitation, to the area and help with the road before the rain fully commences this year.
