Tenant arraigned by Police for impersonation

A 47-year-old tenant, Onyekwere Micheal, has been arraigned before an Ebute-Metta Magistrate’s Court in Lagos for impersonation.

The defendant was arraigned on three counts bordering on impersonation and unlawful possession of army accoutrement.

It was gathered that Micheal, between September 2013 and November 27, 2014, with the intent to defraud, presented himself as a member of the Nigerian Army.

We gathered that the incident happened in the FESTAC Town, Lagos, where he was a tenant.

The charges read in part, “That you Onyekwere Micheal, between September,2013 and November 27, 2014, at about 7.30am, in FESTAC Town, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, with intent to defraud, did present yourself as a member of the Nigerian Army.

“That you, Onyekwere Micheal, at the same date, time and place, in the aforesaid magisterial district, with intent to intimidate members of the public did knowingly and unlawfully have in possession and control, a Nigerian Army accoutrement as follows; one beret cap, one camouflage jacket, one jack knife and one electric shocker.”

The police prosecutor, Inspector Asu Feddy, said the offences were punishable under sections 77,328(a)(b)(d) and 56 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State Nigeria, 2011.

The magistrate of the court, Mr. E.O. Ogunkanmi admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50,000.

He adjourned the case till January 7, 2015.
