Test materials before building, LASG tells residents

The Lagos State Government has urged residents to test materials before embarking on any construction work to reduce the spate of building collapse in the state.

A statement on Wednesday said the acting General Manager of the Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory, Olalekan Ajani, spoke during a meeting with officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency.

Ajani, according to the statement, also called for collaboration among government agencies in the interest of residents.

“Engineer Ajani said collaboration with other sister agencies is key to preventing building collapse being experienced in Lagos State as a result of substandard materials used for construction.

“He said if such materials are tested before the commencement of construction, it can reduce loss of lives and property to the barest minimum,” the statement added.

The Director-General of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, was quoted to have said only effective partnership, rather than unhealthy competition, could serve the goal of protecting lives and property.
